The Nonprofit Roundtable Annual Meeting on June 10 was an uplifting event. There were many memorable quotes from the keynote speaker, Dr. Paul Light, who spoke about his article "Four Futures," which was originally published in the Nonprofit Quarterly. The article laid out four possible scenarios for the future of nonprofits: a miraculous rescue, general withering, random winnowing or rejuvenation. See our previous post to read about an in-depth discussion of this article held at the Bradley Center here in DC.
Dr. Light spoke about the current importance of encouraging nonprofits not to adopt the corporate model -- which their boards may be pushing them to do -- but to increase their nonprofit identity as innovative, productive, well-managed and effective entities. And he urged the audience to be proud of what they do!
The meeting ended with the announcement of the winners of the Roundtable's Big Idea contest. Read more about these Big Ideas on the Roundtable's blog. Congratulations to the Roundtable for an uplifting and informative meeting!
